Activities at home

There are many things your child can do at home to help them continue their progress.

*Read for at least 20 minutes a day.  Talk about what they read:  Who is are the characters?   Where are they?  What happened?  Or if they read a non-fiction book, What did they learn about ___________________?

*Practice writing their first and last name.

*Read and write their sight words (or “popcorn” words).

            *Read and write CVC words.

            *Counting to 100 by 1s and 100s.

*Count objects in the house:  buttons, crayons, cheerios, cotton balls, toys, etc.

*Practice identifying the coins and stating the value (a penny is worth 1 cent, a nickel is worth 5 cents, a dime is worth 10 cents, a quarter is worth 25 cents).

To help with some of these activities, and to give ideas of things your student should be able to do, we are including a packet with their sight words, a 100s chart and several worksheets which reinforce some kindergarten standards we have been working on.

We are not asking that your child do schoolwork all day every day.  Three or four short practice times (15-20 minutes) each day would be best to help them keep them progressing.

In addition, there are several videos and songs on youtube which also reinforce our skills, such as:

*Harry Kindergarten:  I can Count to 100 and Counting Superhero; Climbing up the Mountain (Count by 10s);  Numbers in the Teens Start with a 1

*Jack Hartmann:  Count to 100, any of the sight word videos with Jan Richardson,

*Have Fun Teaching:  Count Down from 20; the Sight Word Rap, the alphabet song

They can also log in their DreamBox account to practice math, or look at websites such as www.abcya.com or www.starfall.com  or www.teachyourmonstertoread.com

PLEASE CHECK UNDER FILES AND DOCUMENTS  FOR MORE USEFUL RESOURCES.

These websites have many free activities if accessed from a laptop or desktop.

Thank you for helping us continue to support your child during this time.
If you have any questions or concerns please email me at colgansm@pwcs.edu.  I will check my email regularly.

Stay well,
