Updated 4/14/20
Welcome to a new week of home learning! I'm excited about our new virtual schoolhouse. I think you will like the activities and flexibility provided by the 1st grade team. Together we have created a choice board, which will be updated biweekly, with activities your child can do for each subject area. Feel free to allow them to pick and choose what they would like to do. I want to keep our Cardinals learning, but I also want to make sure that they are not feeling stress at this difficult time. All of our online reading and math websites are also still available. The choice board can be found on the 1st grade main page, as well as a PDF file on my At Home Learning page.

I will provide Zoom classroom meetings twice a week, as well as office hours where I can be available to answer any questions you have. Of course, please feel free to email me even if it's not during my office hours time, and I will do my best to get back to you in a timely manner. All Encore specialists (art, PE, music and library) will also have lessons and office hours as well, so please visit their class websites too!

I am so excited to share a new resource that I discovered from Scholastic! It's called Scholastic Learn at Home and can be found by clicking here. Be sure to click on the link for grades 1 and 2. It is designed to have a set of activities each day: a fiction story to watch, a nonfiction story to read, and a bunch of activities to do! Henry, my 1st grade son, is going to be doing these activities at home with me. Email me photos or videos of your activities or projects!

English and Spanish Title 1 Newsletters for Reading and Math/Science have been added to the Files and Documents section. Various materials have been added to the Math and Reading folders in Files and Documents as well. Useful links and At Home Learning have been updated. Please check them out!

Dear Parents and Students,

I am deeply saddened by the news of the governor closing schools for the remainder of the school year. My sons, Ben and Henry, are just as sad as I am to not be able to return to their classrooms, classmates and teachers. Please give your sons and daughters hugs from me and tell them that I miss them.

I am working on how to setup an online meeting with our class using either Microsoft Teams or Zoom meetings. I can't wait to see everyone's faces! I will keep you updated on this as I learn more. I had a meeting online with a few teachers at Kerrydale today, and it was very exciting!

I am continuing to add to this page everyday. Keep checking back for more resources. Today I added a new link that I will be adding information for you to review each standard we learned this year, set up in categories. I will also keep adding to the links page for things that do not necessarily fit on this new page.

For those of you who received your Clever login, you can now access BrainPop from the Clever page. For those of you who don't have the username and passwords yet, I am getting information on how to get it to you. I am allowed to email the username/email address, but not passwords. I will be getting an update about how you can change the password from our technology team, and I will share it with you as soon as I know!

Keep being strong for our kids. We will get through this! We are Kerrydale Strong!!

Dear Parents and Students,

I hope all is well with your families. I miss the children lots already, and I can't wait to get back into our regular school routine. Until then, I will be updating this page with links that the kids can use to keep their learning fresh.

Right now, I hope that they are reading as much as they can, and practicing those math facts! Be sure to let them play outside (at a safe distance from others of course). Ask them to explore plants, animals, bugs... try planting some seeds to see what happens! Encourage your children to be kids and PLAY. Set a schedule for learning, but don't stress out over it. Love your children, and let them know you are there for them in this scary time.

And finally, if you have any questions, please feel free to email me. I will be checking my email several times a day. You can also have your kid email me as well! Or have them make a video and email it to me! Please hug your child for me and tell him or her that I love and miss them! We will make it through this!
